Day 1, Sunday: En Route
Depart New York on your flight to Warsaw via Prague. |
Day 2, Monday: Warsaw
Morning arrival in Warsaw; meeting, assistance and transfer to your hotel. Remainder of the day at leisure. Tonight, a Welcome Dinner celebrates your arrival in Poland.

Day 3, Tuesday: Warsaw
Today, the tale of Warsaw’s once thriving Jewish community unfolds. Morning orientation tour of the city, ends at the former Jewish Ghetto. Here, walk along Memory Lane; see the Warsaw Ghetto Heroes monument, a dramatic sculpture by Natan Rappaport, and the marble plaque commemorating Mila 18. Stop at Umschlag Platz, the place where 300,000 Jews were deported to Treblinka. Visit the Old Cemetery dating back to 1806, one of the largest in Poland, where many prominent Polish Jews are buried. Then, continue to the Old Town for a walking tour; visit lively Market Square, with its charming outdoor cafes and displays of local crafts. View the magnificent Royal Castle and the reconstructed Barbican.

Day 4, Wednesday: Warsaw/Krakow
Depart Warsaw. Morning drive to Krakow, the ancient capital of Poland. Continue on a pilgrimage to Auschwitz and Birkenau, the largest and most notorious complex of Nazi extermination camps. Arrive in Krakow, a beautiful city whose fairy-tale castle and centuries-old university is spread out like a living museum around the vast and colorful Market Square. Check in to your hotel.

Day 5, Thursday: Karkow
Morning drive to the magnificent Castle and Coronation Cathedral perched high atop Wawel Hill. Continue to Kazimierz, the former Jewish section, where the original buildings still remain intact. Visit the ancient Remuh Synagogue, where Jews still worship today and the nearby cemetery. Stop at the 14th-century Alt Synagogue, recently restored, which houses the Museum of Jewish History and Culture. Lunch at a local restaurant. Then, drive via Oskar Schindler’s former factory, and other sights highlighted in the movie, Schindler’s List. Spend the rest of the day at Market Square, with its Renaissance-style Cloth Hall; its arcades lead to numerous shops — you can shop to your heart’s content!

Day 6, Friday: Krakow/Budapest
Depart Krakow. Cross the Slovak border* and drive through the scenic countryside dotted with charming villages and farms. After a brief stop (a box lunch will be provided), continue to the sparkling and sophisticated capital of Hungary. Check-in to your hotel situated on the scenic Danube Promenade. Tonight, attend evening services at the impressive Dohany Street Synagogue built in 1859; it is the largest in Europe and magnificently restored. *Please Note: U.S. citizens do not require visas for Slovakia; other passport holders should obtain the necessary visas prior to departure.

Day 7, Saturday: Budapest
This morning, optional Shabbat services at the Dohany Street Synagogue. Afternoon walking tour of lively Budapest. Evening: Dinner at the world-famous Gundel Restaurant.

Day 8, Sunday: Budapest
Explore Buda and Pest with its wealth of historic monuments, linked by eight graceful bridges. Drive via Heroes Square, the Castle District and Fisherman’s Bastion with glorious views of the Danube. Continue to the Jewish Museum with its wealth of artifacts and documents relating to Jewish life in Hungary. Stop at the unique Weeping Willow Memorial, dedicated to Jews who perished during the Nazi reign of terror. Then, on to the Raoul Wallenberg monument, honoring the Swedish diplomat who saved thousands of Jews during the Holocaust. Tonight, enjoy a boat cruise on the Danube River; see Budapest’s most beautiful sights, all aglow at night.

Day 9, Monday: Budapest/Prague
Morning departure from Budapest on your short flight to Prague. Arrive in golden Prague, nestled on the banks of the Vltava River, main artery of the Bohemian waterways; meeting, assistance and transfer to your hotel. Time to rest before your afternoon panoramic tour which includes views of the State Opera, Wenceslas Square, the National Museum, and Charles Bridge. Continue to Prague Castle; walk across the castle’s courtyard to see St. Vitus Cathedral. Cross the Vltava River to the Old Town; enjoy a walking tour of this lovely area abound with shops, boutiques and cafes. See the old Town Hall and the world-famous astronomical clock.

Day 10, Tuesday: Prague
Morning Jewish interest walking tour. Visit the Jewish Museum complex, home of the Precious Legacy; the 13th-century Alt-Neu Synagogue and the Pinkas, Klaus and Maisel synagogues. Then, continue to the 15th-century Jewish Cemetery. See the 16th-century Jewish Town Hall, with its distinctive tower and clock with Hebrew letters before returning to your hotel. Remainder of the day at leisure to discover this charming city on your own.

Day 11, Wednesday: Prague
Day at leisure, or, participate in the optional pilgrimage to Terezin, former model concentration camp. Visit the small fortress, museum, and the Jewish cemetery with its impressive Menorah Sculpture surrounded by symbolic, nameless graves. Return to Prague for the rest of the day at leisure. Tonight, a Farewell Dinner.

Day 12, Thursday: En Route
Morning transfer to the airport for your return flight to New York.
